It looks like he fought a bear, but missing man was just lost with dog in SC state park
A man who went missing while searching for his lost dog had to be rescued from a South Carolina state park in the Midlands, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said.
Although the man’s clothes were torn to shreds and his body was covered in scratches both he and his dog were found safe after the five-hour long ordeal.
And now he has a good story to share, at least the sheriff’s office says so.
The man disappeared on Saturday morning after he took his dog for a walk in Goodale State Park, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
The 763 acre park is near Camden, and less than 40 miles from Columbia, according to South Carolina State Parks.
While state officials boast about the park’s tall cypress trees and sandy nature trail, the man encountered problems when he left the walking trail, the sheriff’s office said.
He had gone for a walk at about 9:30 a.m., but at some point the dog got off the leash, according to the post.
When the man tried tracking down the dog, he got lost in a “very thick wooded area,” the sheriff’s office said.
After receiving emergency calls about the missing man, the sheriff’s office tracking team said it located him and the dog at about 2:15 p.m.
The man’s shirt was ripped off, his pants were in tatters and he suffered several scratches after getting lost in the thick brush, according to the post.
In spite of how he looked, the sheriff’s office said the man was examined by Kershaw County EMS which determined he “was OK and will go home without major injuries ... and he will have a good story to tell his family over the holidays.”
The shirtless man even took time to smile in a photo with his rescuers. They included sheriff’s office K-9 Koda, who was receiving attention from the man’s dog, pictures show.
