‘Shelter in place’ sheriff tells Midlands residents during search for armed suspects
Midlands residents were warned to take caution during a search for two armed men Wednesday morning, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office said.
Residents in the area of the White Mobile Home Park were asked to “shelter in place and call 911” if they see the suspects, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. That is a mile away from Cromer Farms in Newberry.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Sheriff Lee Foster said the suspects likely left the area and people could return to business as normal, according to a news release.
Helicopters and bloodhounds were used by sheriff’s deputies and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents searching for the two men who are believed to be involved in an attempted robbery and shooting on Tuesday, according to the post.
The men were at a residence on Skating Rink Loop, and fled from there heading toward the mobile home park and north on Lanewood Road, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office described the suspects as “two black males wearing dark hoodies and dark colored pants.”
They were carrying backpacks and considered armed, according to the post.
People in the area were also asked by the sheriff’s office to remove any keys from vehicles.
Two women at the residence denied knowing the suspects, the sheriff’s office said. Both women — Aleera Diajanna Praylow, 20, and Diamonra Nygeria Robinson, 18 — were arrested after marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a small child were found in the trailer, according to the release.
They were both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and child endangerment, the sheriff’s office said.
During the attempted robbery at a business on Highway 34 Tuesday morning, the men were wearing “Halloween-type masks,” and injured a victim who had to be hospitalized.
Information on the victim’s condition was not available.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 803-321-2222, or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
