Teen charged with threatening students at Lexington County high school, sheriff says

A teenage boy was charged with making threats to other students at a Midlands high school Tuesday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said.

The 17-year-old threatened the other Chapin High School students following an argument, the sheriff department said in a news release. The school is on Columbia Avenue, between Chapin Road and Interstate 26.

The teen said his money was stolen, prompting the dispute and leading to threats, according to the release.

The nature of the threats was not reported by the sheriff’s department.

After being interviewed by a sheriff’s deputy at the high school, the teen was released to the custody of his grandfather, according to the release.

The teen’s identity is not being released because he is a minor, the sheriff’s department said.

The 17-year-old will have to appear in Lexington County Family Court, but no date has been scheduled, according to the sheriff’s department.

Information on a possible suspension or other punishment from the school was not available.
