Burglary suspect who escaped on Thanksgiving back in custody, Lexington sheriff says

A burglary suspect who escaped from custody on Thanksgiving Day is behind bars, the Lexington County Sheriff’s department announced.

Tyrese Dashawn Johnson, 20, was arrested in Gilbert on Thursday afternoon, the department said in a tweet.

Johnson had been on the run for two weeks after he escaped arrest on Sandpit Road in Leesville on Nov. 28. He is charged with second-degree burglary, possession of tools used in a crime, criminal conspiracy, safecracking and unlawful escape, according to the sheriff’s department.

Johnson’s arrest comes after he served 133 days in jail for a burglary conviction in February. In June 2018, he pleaded guilty in a Lexington courtroom to charges of second-degree burglary and possession of a stolen pistol. He received a suspended sentence in that case and was ordered to 36 months of probation and to pay $1,000 in restitution.

Court records from Lexington County also show Johnson has a history dating back to 2016 of charges of credit card theft, stealing gas, pointing and presenting a firearm, malicious injury to a pet, larceny and possession of marijuana or hash.
