Coroner IDs Columbia man fatally shot, as Richland County cops search for his killer
A man who was fatally shot Sunday morning was identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office, while the sheriff’s department continues to search for the killer.
The shooting happened at about 5:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of Hallbrook Drive, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. That is near the intersection with Garner’s Ferry Road, and Mill Creek Elementary School.
Calvin Recardo Bryant, Jr., was discovered there by sheriff’s deputies before he was taken to an area hospital, Coroner Gary Watts said Monday.
It was just after 8 a.m. when the 26-year-old Columbia man died of injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the coroner.
Information on a suspect, or suspects, in the shooting was not available, and there was no word on what sparked the gunfire.
The sheriff’s department is asking for the community’s help with information to locate Bryant’s killer.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
The shooting remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department and coroner’s office.
