Suspected shooter out of hospital after man killed at holiday party in Lexington

A man is dead after a fight at a real estate company’s holiday party, according to the Lexington Police Department.

No one has been charged in the shooting, police department spokeswoman Inspector Melissa Silcox said, but the man suspected in the killing was hospitalized with injuries.

The man suffered facial lacerations, but he was released from the hospital, Silcox told The State Sunday morning.

Investigators are “evaluating statements and evidence,” Silcox said. “We’ve had varying reports and more witnesses need to be interviewed.”

Police were called at about 11:30 p.m. Friday to Southern Dreams Realty at 102 Gantt St. Officers found a man who had been shot laying on the ground in the parking lot of the business, the department said.

That is near the intersection with Main Street in downtown, less than a quarter mile from the Lexington Police Department headquarters.

Wesley J. Warren-Camp was identified as the gunshot victim by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. The 26-year-old Lexington man died at the scene, according to Fisher.

Witnesses told police that the company was having its holiday party when two men got into a physical fight. One man opened fire, mortally injuring Warren-Camp.

The fight began outside and several people tried to break it up as it spilled into the parking lot, Silcox said.

The gun was inside a car in the parking lot, Silcox said.

The gunshot struck Warren-Camp in the upper body, Fisher said.

Fisher said an autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, the Lexington Ledger reported.

Warren-Camp previously worked at Aerotek and American Income Life Insurance Company after graduating from Newberry College, where he was on the baseball team, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before college, he attended Pelion High School.

The Lexington Police Department and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating the shooting.

The department said more information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 803-358-7262, or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
