A Sumter man was found dead on New Year’s Day. Police believe it was a homicide.

Police are investigating the death of a Sumter man that they believe was a homicide, according to a release.

The body of Montrel Epps, 23, was found off McCrays Mill Road at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday as Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a property check after seeing Epps’ car parked “in the area,” according to the release.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
