Teen charged in gang-related murder of SC mother and infant is captured in Georgia

A teenage suspect in the slayings of a 26-year-old South Carolina mother and her infant son has been arrested in Georgia, nearly three weeks after the deaths, according to police. Two other suspects are still being sought.

Thomas Anthony Henderson, 18, is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Mel’lisha Jackson and 1-year-old Elijah.

The mother and son were shot to death Dec. 17 at Kalmia Apartments in Graniteville in Aiken County.

Aiken County authorities have said Jackson and her son were not the intended targets of the shooting, which is believed to be gang-related.

Henderson was arrested Saturday morning at a home in Augusta, Georgia, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department. He was being held Saturday at the Richmond County jail pending an extradition hearing.

Officials are still seeking two other suspects in the killings. Anyone with information about the identity and whereabouts of the remaining suspects is asked to call the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 648-6811 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, or submit an online tip.
