Search for armed, dangerous man after woman shot in Five Points area, police say
A woman has been hospitalized after a shooting was reported in the Five Points area Tuesday, said the Columbia Police Department, which is searching for an “armed and dangerous” gunman.
The shooting at Waverly Family Medical Center, in the 1200 block of Harden Street, happened at about 12:30 p.m. Chief Skip Holbrook said in a news conference.
That’s near the intersection with Gervais Street, and across the road from Station at Five Points residences.
The woman suffered injuries to her upper body in the shooting, police said on Twitter.
Holbrook said the 35-year-old was in surgery at about 1:30 p.m.
Medical staff said the woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury and is expected to be “OK,” police tweeted. Further information on her condition was not available.
The shooter was identified as Brandon Wise, according to Holbrook.
The 36-year-old man left the scene in an SUV, which he abandoned and has been recovered by police, Holbrook said.
Wise is considered armed and dangerous, according to Holbrook.
Information on what led to the shooting was not available, but Holbrook said Wise and the woman were acquainted. The shooting is being investigated as domestic related, according to the police chief.
Along with searching for Wise, police are conducting interviews and examining evidence recovered at the scene of the shooting and from the SUV, Holbrook said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
