Man’s body is found in Midlands, foul play is suspected, sheriff’s office says

A man’s body was found Wednesday morning and the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the death as a homicide.

The body was discovered just before 9 a.m., according to the sheriff’s department’s Facebook post.

The dead man was near an abandoned vehicle in the area of Green Hill Road and Whitehead Road, according to the post. That is about 25 miles northeast of Columbia.

People are asked to avoid the area, and members of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are going to process the scene for evidence.

Another vehicle was involved and left the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Information on a possible cause of death was not available.

There is no word on the man’s identity, but it will be made public by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office once his family has been notified.

The sheriff’s office said there is not a threat to the community, as it continues to investigate the death along with SLED.
