Coroner says how teen found at abandoned Midlands home was killed
The body of a teenager was found at an abandoned Midlands home Monday, the Sumter County Coroner’s Office said.
Antwan Dukes, 17, was identified as the person found dead at the Belmont Drive home, Coroner Robbie Baker said in a news release. That’s near the intersection of Manning Avenue and Pocalla Road.
An autopsy showed Dukes died from a gunshot wound, Baker said Wednesday.
The autopsy was performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, the coroner’s office said.
When his body was first discovered, the teen’s death was called suspicious by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Dukes’ mother, Angela Dukes, said “Someone killed my baby,” in a Facebook post.
“My heart is broken... I’m in so much pain. My baby is gone,” Angela Dukes said in the post. “Never have I ever felt this type of pain. I don’t know what to do. God give me strength. I love you son . Until we meet again.”
Angela Dukes said her son was a senior at Sumter High School, and called for anyone involved in Antwan’s death or with information to come forward, WACH reported.
The death continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office.
