SC college student shot in the head, body found in car, coroner says
An investigation is underway after a South Carolina college student was found shot to death in a car Tuesday morning, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 8 a.m., deputies responded to a call and found the body of a man with a head wound sitting in the driver’s seat of a car, according to the sheriff’s office.
The man was identified as Jeremiah Duncan, a 20-year-old USC Aiken student, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release. He was a sophomore communication major, the university said on Facebook.
The Beech Island resident died at the scene on Gunter Road, off Talatha Church Road, according to the release. That’s near Duke’s Bar-B-Que and Talatha Baptist Church, about 60 miles southwest of Columbia.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday in Newberry, Ables said.
Duncan’s death has been ruled a homicide, according to the coroner’s office.
Information on a suspect, or suspects, was not available, and there’s no word on a possible motive.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-648-6811, or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
Duncan was a Silver Bluff High School alum, the Aiken Standard reported.
“The campus community was saddened to hear the news of Jeremiah Duncan,” USC Aiken said in the Facebook post. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeremiah’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
