Richland deputies investigating early morning shooting in northeast Columbia

A tree-lined neighborhood in northeast Columbia was disrupted by gunfire that left one person hospitalized Saturday morning.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting that happened in the 1700 block of Springwood Lake Drive, off Two Notch Road near Interstate 77.

The sheriff’s department said that just after 6 a.m. deputies were called to the area and that when they arrived they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital where she remained as of 10:30 a.m.

The department said it had no other details to release because deputies were still in the initial stages of the investigation.

“Additional information will be provided as it becomes available,” the department said.
