Person in house killed when car crashes inside overnight, SC Highway Patrol says

One person was killed in a late-night crash and a search is underway for the driver who fled the scene, South Carolina Highway Patrol said Sunday.

The person who died in the wreck was inside a North Charleston house that was hit by car, Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

The hit-and-run collision occurred at about 11 p.m. Saturday on Attaway Street, according to Collins. That’s near Interstate 26, about 10 miles north of Charleston.

A 2005 Buick LaCrosse ran off the left side of the road and smashed into the home, killing a person inside, Collins said.

The driver left the scene and their identity remains unknown to law enforcement, according to Collins.

Highway Patrol is asking for the community’s help in identifying and locating the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text *HP.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office will publicly identify the crash victim after notifying the next of kin.

No other injuries were reported by Highway Patrol.
