Couple identified who died in Lexington County I-26 collision that backed up traffic
A husband and wife died in a collision on Interstate 26 in Lexington County, Thursday.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the couple as 78-year-old James G. Hoff and 75-year-old Terri Lee Hoff of Fenton, Missouri.
About 2:30 p.m., James Hoff was driving on I-26 westbound when the couple’s vehicle collided with the back of a box truck that was stopped because of traffic, Fisher said in a statement. The wreck happened near exit 119 between the communities of Dixiana and Sandy Run. Emergency responders pronounced the couple dead at the scene.
Both were wearing seat belts and the driver of the box truck was not injured, Fisher said.
The crash caused traffic to back up, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol which is investigating the collision.
The Hoff’s son, Brad Hoff, said over social media that the death of his parents created a “devastating feeling of emptiness.”
“You may not all believe in prayer, but we could sure use them ... or at least your kind thoughts and fond memories of them,” he said, adding that “the love will never end,” for his parents.
