Driver fired gun in road rage incident at Midlands school bus stop, sheriff says
The West Columbia man who shot a gun into the air during a road rage incident at a school bus stop Wednesday morning was arrested, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deaundre Quintrell Scott was arrested on weapons charges after firing multiple rounds, and was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said on Twitter.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shots fired call near the intersection of Pallet Drive and Dixiana Road in West Columbia, spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick told The State. That’s near the junction of Interstate 26 and Interstate 77.
Witnesses told deputies that neighbors decided to confront a driver who had been speeding through and around a school bus stop on multiple occasions, Myrick said.
During the morning pickup, neighbors flagged down the car and the driver stopped. During a dispute, witnesses said the driver got out of the car with the gun and fired it into the air, according to Myrick.
No injuries or property damage was reported, Myrick said.
The man then drove off, while the bus that was on the street proceeded to take the children on board to Cayce Elementary School, according to the sheriff’s department.
Scott, 22, was charged with two counts of pointing a firearm at another person, and one count of unlawful carry of a firearm, the sheriff’s department tweeted.
Scott remains behind bars as no bond has been set on his charges, jail records show.
Before the man was arrested, Myrick said the sheriff’s department was evaluating having deputies patrol the area during morning pickup and afternoon drop off times.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 803-785-8230.
