Body of missing SC man found in the woods with bullet wounds, coroner says

The body of a missing South Carolina man was found in woods, and his death has been called a homicide, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

Trenton Nichols was shot to death, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday in Newberry, according to the release.

Information if the 20-year-old North Augusta man was killed where he was found, or if his body was dumped there, was not available.

Nichols’ body was discovered just before 4 p.m. Monday along the wood line off the 100 block of St Johns Church Road in Aiken, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said. That’s a little more than 10 miles from downtown Aiken.

Nichols was reported missing in February, Ables said.

His death was considered suspicious before the coroner ruled it a homicide.

There was no word on possible suspects, or a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information on Nichols’ death is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-648-6811.
