Authorities identify bodies of those found inside burning car last month in Sumter

Sumter County Coroner’s Office has identified the bodies of two people found inside a burning car on Foxville Road last month, officials said Friday.

The bodies were those of Janio Lopes, 36, of Eastover and Rachel Ravenell, 44, of Dalzell, according to a release from the coroner’s office.

Authorities had said previously that Lopes and Ravenell were killed before the fire started, according to a previous article from The State. Sumter County Robbie Baker said Ravenell was shot in the head and the man suffered trauma to the head.

Police have not named a suspect and the investigation is still ongoing.
