SC police ask for public’s help finding gunman in fatal drive-by shooting

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal drive-by shooting, and it is asking for the public’s help in identifying the gunman.

According to police, 26-year-old Lafayette Williams was walking near downtown Aiken Friday night when a vehicle drove by and one or more individuals inside it opened fire on him. The vehicle then sped away and Williams — who police said was struck by at least one bullet — died at the scene. The shooting happened at Pine Drive and Pickens Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to police.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the department at (803) 642-7620. Those with information can also call Midlands Crime Stoppers at (888) 274-6372.
