Teens charged with murdering 20-year-old, Richland County Sheriff says

Two teenage males have been charged with murder, among other crimes, less than two weeks after a man was found shot inside a car, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

On March 26, sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a vehicle collision and shots fired in a Columbia neighborhood, according to a news release.

It was about 9:45 p.m. when deputies arrived to the 100 block of Elder’s Pond Drive and discovered two vehicles involved in a crash, the sheriff’s department said. That’s near the intersection of HardScrabble Road and Clemson Road.

Behind the wheel of one of the cars, deputies said they found a man who was unresponsive after being shot.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the man as 20-year-old Dayon Devales Geiger, according to the release.

One of the teenage suspect was arrested at his home on April 3, the sheriff’s department said. The second teen was taken into custody at his home Monday morning by the Richland County Fugitive Task Force.

Both suspects have been taken to the juvenile wing of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the release. In addition to murder, the teens were charged with armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said.

Their names are not being made public because of the minor’s ages.

Information on a motive for the shooting, and Geiger’s cause of death, was not available.
