Midlands man violated SC’s ‘home or work’ order when he smashed car into Columbia home
In addition to handful of criminal charges, a Midlands man was cited for violating South Carolina’s coronavirus-related “home or work” order after he smashed a car into a home Wednesday morning, the Columbia Police Department said.
Officers found Markevis Kinard behind the wheel of a Chrysler 300 that was wrecked inside the back of a home in the 2600 block of Chestnut Street, police said in a news release. That’s near Providence Health hospital, at the intersection of Two Notch Road and Forest Drive.
At about 7:30 a.m., the 26-year-old Prospertity resident hit another car at a Farrow Road gas station and drove away, according to the release.
He then crashed into the home with one person inside, police said.
No injuries were reported in the collision.
Kinard was arrested on charges that included driving under the influence (DUI), hit and run property damage and reckless driving, according to the release.
Police said Kinard was also cited for violating the order issued by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster Monday. People must stay at home if they are not at work or out tending to essential needs, according to the executive order.
Kinard’s being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and no bond has been set, jail records show.
He was previously wanted on outstanding narcotics and gun arrest warrants from Prosperity, according to the release.
