Irmo firefighters fight smoke, gas after vehicle collides with home
Irmo firefighters were forced to fight smoke and gas early Sunday morning after a driver of an SUV crashed into the side of a home in Irmo.
Irmo Fire District officials said they received the call of the collision at around 8 a.m. near the 400 block of Tram Road near Limehouse Reach Road. When firefighters arrived, the driver of the vehicle was standing outside of the vehicle and heavy smoke was coming from the SUV. The collision also forced a gas line near the residence to rupture.
SCE&G workers are currently on scene securing the gas leak, while South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers have called in a tow truck to remove the vehicle. Emergency Medical Services transported one victim from the scene to a local hospital, but officials did not say whether the victim was the driver of the vehicle.
