SC man was making free meals for hospital workers when he was robbed, cops say
A man was arrested for robbing a restaurant employee who was making free meals for South Carolina health care workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.
Rashard Ashun Holmes Sr., was arrested Saturday, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Police said the 28-year-old Charleston man stole a bag from an employee who was preparing the hospital workers’ food at the Toast of Charleston restaurant on April 17.
The bag contained cash, debit and credit cards, medicine, house and car keys, according to the police report.
“It just sucks that in these times that I am working at an establishment, doing such good for the community, a scoundrel like this takes advantage of an opportunity and steals my stuff,” the restaurant employee said, WCIV reported.
The employee was making food as part of the restaurant’s “Full Belly, Full Hearts,” campaign to feed hospital workers, first responders, and laid-off hospitality workers.
Information on how Holmes was tracked down was not available. There was no word if the employee’s possessions were recovered.
Holmes was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center where he was charged with petty larceny, jail records show. His bond was set at $2,125, but he remains behind bars, according to jail records.
This is the third time in April, and fourth time in 2020 that Holmes has been booked at the detention center, jail records show. He’s been locked up at the Charleston County facility 10 times since 2010, according to jail records.
In 2018, Holmes pleaded guilty to a weapons charge, court records show.
