SLED: Probation officer charged with misconduct for sexual relationship with offender

A South Carolina probation officer was charged with misconduct for having a sexual relationship with an offender he supervised, according to state police.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged 25-year-old George Yeldell with misconduct in office Tuesday, according to a warrant. SLED agents arrested Yeldell that afternoon.

The warrant accuses Yeldell of abusing his power and misusing his authority to have the relationship with the offender.

Agents jailed Yeldell at the Aiken County Detention Center, where he was let out on bond, court records show.

Yeldell no longer works for the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, according to an agency spokesperson. He worked with the agency from July 2017 to October 2019.

SLED’s investigation into the allegation against Yeldell was requested by the probation department, the state police agency said. The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case against Yeldell.
