SC sheriff’s office raids drug, gun stash half mile from headquarters, agency says

Sumter deputies raided a home less than a mile from the sheriff’s office headquarters and seized a trove of drugs, cash and stolen guns, according to the office.

The raid by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office netted 138 grams of marijuana, over 60 grams of fentanyl, about 56 grams of heroin and tramadol, about 15 grams of methamphetamine and nearly three grams of morphine. The raid took place Thursday at a home on Jerry Street, about a half-mile from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies also confiscated wads of cash and seven firearms, two of which had been reported stolen, according to the sheriff’s office. The guns included an AK-style rifle and another semi-automatic rifle.

Deputies arrested Shaquanna Spencer at the scene; in addition to gun-related crimes, Spencer, 30, has been charged with three drug trafficking offenses and selling marijuana and other drugs.

Deputies are seeking to arrest two others in connection to the drugs and guns.

“Because of its proximity to the sheriff’s office, I get personal satisfaction in knowing that this operation was shut down,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “I can’t believe they felt so comfortable that they thought they could set up an operation so close to us and get away with it.”

If convicted on the charges, Spencer could possibly go to prison for more than 75 years.
