Hooters shooting sparks search for gunman, Richland County Sheriff says

A search is underway for a gunman following a Tuesday morning shooting at a Hooters, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the Columbia restaurant in the 7700 block of Two Notch Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in an area densely packed with businesses and restaurants, in between the junctions with Interstate 77 and Interstate 20.

Deputies found a man who was shot in the upper body, and he was rushed to an area hospital, according to the release.

Information on his condition was not available.

A vehicle was seen leaving the Hooters following the gunfire, but the sheriff’s department said it does not have an accurate description of the vehicle.

Information on a suspect, or suspects, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the shooting.

The sheriff’s department said it does not believe there is a threat to the public at this time.
