Columbia man arrested for stealing thousands of dollars of crab legs
A Columbia man has been arrested by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department after they say he stole thousands of dollars worth of crab legs — and investigators believe it wasn’t the first time he did it.
Johnathan Dewayne Dorsey, 28, has been charged with armed robbery, second-degree burglary and kidnapping in relation to a Jan. 18 incident at the U.S. Foods distribution center in Lexington.
In a news release, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said detectives believe Dorsey, working with others, had a pistol when they threatened a security guard. After tying the guard up and leaving him face down, they stole his phone and key card.
Using the key card, they entered the distribution center’s warehouse and stole two pallets of frozen crab legs, valued at approximately $8,400, Koon said.
Koon also said in the release that Dorsey had also been charged with two counts of breach of trusts from his time as an employee with U.S. Foods last year. Investigators say he stole more than a hundred cases of crab legs worth nearly $36,000 in October.
Dorsey was arrested Wednesday and released after meeting the conditions of his bond. The investigation into the January incident is still ongoing, and detectives expect to make more arrests, Koon said.
