Inmate at women’s-only prison in Columbia dies, SC officials say
An inmate at a prison in Columbia died Saturday from a suspected drug overdose, the South Carolina Department of Corrections said.
Bianca Pleasant was found in a bathroom in a living area at Camille Graham Correctional Institution, spokeswoman Chrysti Shain told The State Monday.
The 28-year-old was taken to an area hospital where she died, Department of Corrections officials said on Twitter.
An autopsy is scheduled, and the Department of Corrections police services is investigating Pleasant’s death.
Pleasant had been locked up at Camille Graham since August 2018, prison records show. The women’s-only prison on Broad River Road is a medium-security institution, according to the Department of Corrections.
She pleaded guilty to assault & battery of a high & aggravated nature after being arrested on an attempted murder charge in 2017, Darlington County court records show.
In June 2019, Pleasant was disciplined for hitting another inmate at Camille Graham, but she did not have a weapon, according to prison records. She was placed under detention and lost phone and canteen privileges as a punishment.
Court records showed Pleasant was credited with 446 days of time served when she was sentenced, making Aug. 30, 2021 her projected release date from Camille Graham, according to the Department of Corrections.
In 2017, Pleasant was fined $257.50 after she was charged with disorderly conduct, Richland County court records show.
