Man shot several times, and it wasn’t a random act of violence, Midlands cops say

An investigation is underway after a man was shot several times Saturday night, the South Congaree Police Department said.

The man was hit in the torso with multiple rounds after gunfire erupted in the 500 block of Ramblin Road near South Cove Drive, police said in a news release Sunday. That’s in between Platt Springs Road and Main Street.

The man’s injuries were called “substantial” by South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert, but the wounds are not considered life threatening, according to the release.

The man was hospitalized and Shumpert said surgery is expected.

Further information on his condition was not available.

The shooting was not a random act of violence, according to the release. There is not a search for a shooter, or shooters, but police said they have identified and interviewed all parties involved.

Police have not said that any arrests have been made.

Information on what led to the gunfire was not available, but it remains under investigation.

“The public has no cause to be alarmed,” Shumpert said.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department helped police gather evidence, and the area of Ramblin Road was closed for several hours, according to the release.
