Reports of shooting in Columbia draws large police response

A large law enforcement presence was seen Tuesday afternoon, as members of the Columbia Police Department investigated reports of a shooting.

The gunfire was reported near Plowden Road, in the area by South Beltline Boulevard and Owens Field airport.

Police, EMS and other emergency responders were on the scene.

One person was detained for questioning, and no injuries were reported, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons told The State.

No arrests have been reported, and information on the number of people involved in the shooting was not available.

Timmons said the officers in the area were on patrol and talking with residents to gather information about the incident.

The shooting might have begun as a fight, according to Timmons. Police continue to investigate.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
