Midlands parents charged in death of 1-year-old daughter, cops say
The parents of a little girl have been charged after the 1-year-old’s death, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Donovan Marshall Wright and Taylor Cheyenne Metz were charged with unlawful neglect of a child, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Investigators determined the toddler had fentanyl in her system, according to the release.
The girl died June 14, while with her parents at a Springvale Road residence, the sheriff’s office said. EMS responded to a call about an unresponsive 1-year-old, who was taken to an area hospital and died in the emergency room, according to the sheriff’s office.
Wright, 31, and Metz, 27, were taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center where they are waiting for a bond hearing, jail records show.
An incident report said a man told deputies the baby was sleeping with him for two to three hours, before he touched her leg and it was cold, WACH reported. Water was poured on the girl before she was taken to the hospital, according to the TV report.
Metz is currently facing charges from a 2019 arrest for driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle, Kershaw County court records show.
