Popular American flag mural in Five Points vandalized by graffiti, police say

Police are searching for information after they said a United States mural in Columbia was vandalized.

The popular mural, which is located at 2303 Devine St. in Five Points, is at the home of what used to be Yesterday’s restaurant.

An officer found graffiti on the flag at 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to information from the Columbia Police Department. The graffiti appears to be black spray paint “denoting possible demonic numbers,” police said.

Columbia police are working to discover who is responsible for defacing the mural. As part of the search, officers are working to locate surveillance footage from the area.

This alleged vandalism is considered malicious injury to real property and is punishable by fines and or jail time, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 888-CRIME-SC.
