Columbia police make arrest in case of man found shot in the road

Columbia police have arrested a woman in a fatal Columbia shooting.

Friday, Columbia Police Department charged 23-year-old Michaelynn Lewis with murder and weapon possession.

Officers were called at 1 a.m. Thursday about gunfire on the 1300 block of Bonner Avenue, according to the department. That’s near the intersection of North Beltline Boulevard and Two Notch Road.

Police found a man lying in the road shot. Paramedics took the man to a hospital where he died, police said.

Investigators found a firearm and other ballistic evidence near a home at the scene, the department said.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Tivo Lee. The 45-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said.

Police haven’t released a motive for the shooting.

Officers jailed Lewis at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she remains as of Friday afternoon.

Lewis faces up to life in prison if found guilty of the killing. Unless additional charges are filed, she will not face the death penalty.

The State tried to reach an attorney for Lewis but was unsuccessful.

On Sunday, 30-year-old Shaun Michael Green was fatally shot about a quarter mile away on Dubard Street before being found in the 3400 block of North Beltline Boulevard, police said.

In that shooting, which police have not indicated is related to Lee’s death, Jamaar Brown was charged with murder and gun offenses.
