Richland County sheriff’s deputy suspended after domestic violence arrest
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department suspended one of its deputies after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge Tuesday.
Following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Deputy Aly Brun was suspended without pay, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
Brun, 26, was charged with first-degree domestic violence and is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, jail records show. The assault took place on Aug. 8, SLED spokesman Tommy Crosby said.
He’s awaiting a bond hearing, and his next scheduled court appearance is on Oct. 1, Lexington County court records show.
Brun has worked for the sheriff’s department since August 2018, and was assigned to the Richland County Courthouse, according to the release.
He’ll remain suspended until the charge against him is decided, the sheriff’s department said.
If found guilty of the felony charge, Brun would face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, according to South Carolina law.
The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to Crosby.
