Man shot multiple times and deputies make arrest, search for another gunman, cops say

One man was arrested and a search is underway for another person believed to be involved in a shooting in West Columbia over the weekend, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

On Saturday, a man was shot multiple times while in the Riverbend Apartments parking lot, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Jarvis Klapman Boulevard, about a mile from the Gervais Street bridge.

The man who was shot in the lower body drove himself to a family member’s house before being taken to an area hospital, Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening, according to the release. Further information on his condition was not available.

Shortly after the shooting, deputies located 22-year-old Montel Hakim Reese-Green walking in the apartment complex and arrested him without incident, the sheriff’s department said.

Koon said information gathered at the scene showed Reese-Green and an unidentified man both opened fire on the victim. Details on how the sheriff’s department connected Reese-Green to the shooting was not available.

There was no word on a motive for the shooting.

Reese-Green was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release. He remains behind bars after he was denied bond on both charges, jail records show.

Deputies are still searching for the second man in connection to the shooting, according to the release.

“We’re asking anyone with information about who was with Reese-Green Saturday night to share that with us,” Koon said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
