3 Lexington schools shut down as law enforcement searches for 2 suspects in area

Three Lexington 1 schools were told to lock their doors to any visitors Friday morning as law enforcement searched for suspects in the area.

Carolina Springs Elementary School, Carolina Springs Middle School and White Knoll High School were all put on “lockout” status, meaning no one would be allowed to enter or leave school buildings but activities inside continued as normal, a school district spokesperson said.

Staff were working in the buildings but no students were on campus Friday. However, some of the schools do house daycare facilities for the children of staff during campus working days.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said they were searching for two men in the area Friday morning who had evaded state troopers following a pursuit earlier in the morning.

The men are believed to be in the area of Knotts Road and Knotts Haven Trail, about a block from the middle school on Platt Springs Road in the Red Bank area, said Capt. Adam Myrick with the sheriff’s office.

It was not immediately known why the men were being pursued.

The lockout was later lifted and deputies called off the search without apprehending the suspects.
