Richland deputies make arrest in early morning shooting in St. Andrews area

Richland deputies arrested a man at the scene of a burglary and shooting in the St. Andrews area early Saturday morning.

Richland County Sheriff Department charged 25-year-old Jhaevon Baker with attempted murder, assault and battery and first degree burglary.

According to deputies, at about 4:15 a.m., Baker invaded a home on the 200 block of Wynn Way, which is off Broad River Road near Piney Grove Road in the St. Andrews area.

Baker shot a man in the upper body during the burglarly, deputies said.

The victim was in his mid-20s. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he remains as of Saturday afternoon.

“What led up to the shooting is under investigation,” the department said in a statement. “Preliminary information, however, has revealed this was an isolated incident.”

Deputies booked Baker at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he’s awaiting a bond hearing, jail records show.

Baker faces life in prison if convicted on the first degree burglary charge. Attempted murder carries a sentence of up to 30 years imprisonment.
