Midlands man shot at teen girl in front of their 2-month-old child, cops say
A Midlands man was arrested on domestic violence and sex crime charges after he fired a gun at a teen girl, in front of their infant child, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Keodra Jackson was charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
On Sept. 9, warrants were issued for the 20-year-old Sumter resident, and he was taken into custody on Sept. 14, according to the release.
The sheriff’s office said it was between Nov. 1-20, 2019, when a then-19-year-old Jackson had sex with a 14-year-old, and the girl became pregnant. An arrest warrant was issued for that sex crime.
In a second arrest warrant, Jackson was accused of pointing a pistol and shooting the weapon in the direction of the now 15-year-old, while their 2-month-old child was present, on Rye Street where Jackson lives, the sheriff’s office said.
No injuries were reported.
If convicted on the domestic violence charge and the sex crime, both felonies, Jackson would face a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison for each charge, according to South Carolina law.
Jackson was released on a $1,500 surety bond on the sex crime charge, and a $10,000 bond on the domestic violence charge, Sumter County court records show.
On July 16, Jackson was convicted on a weapons charge for unlawful carrying of a pistol, and was sentenced to one day in jail in addition to time served, from a September 2018 arrest, according to court records.
