Kershaw County deputies have charged two men with trafficking heroin and ecstasy after they were pulled over for speeding on Interstate 20.

Kamal Massey and Eric Sumpter, both of New Jersey, were pulled over for speeding on Monday morning, Sheriff Jim Matthews said.

While talking with Massey and Sumpter, the deputy noticed marijuana flakes on Sumpter’s shirt, Matthews said. Following a search of the vehicle, the deputy found a backpack containing 480 dosage unit size bags of heroin and enough additional heroin to make about 3,500 dosage unit size bags.

Along with the heroin, the deputy found 1.5 ounces of MDMA, which is commonly known as ecstasy, Matthews said.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center, Matthews said. So far, they have been unable to post bond.
