Nearly $117K stolen, Kershaw Co. woman charged

Kershaw County Sheriff's Department

A Lugoff woman who worked for a Kershaw County doctor’s practice is accused of embezzling more than $116K from her employer between 2013 and 2014.

Marsha Burr, 47, turned herself in to authorities Thursday, was booked and released from the Kershaw County Detention Center after posting bond.

Investigators began an investigation at the SC ENT Allergy and Sleep Medicine Center in May, 2015 after someone examining the practice’s accounting records found improprieties. According to the complaint, Burr , who was an accountant, wrote checks to herself and another company she worked for totaling $116,609.

“The investigator was able to identify checks that Burr forged as well as funds that she had diverted to herself,” the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

Burr was charged with breach of trust and forgery.
