Richland County Coroner IDs body found in pond near Lake Arcadia

The Richland County Coroner has identified the person found in a pond near Lake Arcadia on Wednesday.

Eugene Stewart, 53, of Columbia was seen in the pond around 2 p.m. and recovered a little after 4 p.m. Wednesday by members of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and Columbia Fire Department, according to Coroner Gary Watts.

Stewart’s body was seen in the pond on Berry Tree Lane near Lake Arcadia, Watts said.

The final cause of death is still pending further testing, Watts said. However, no evidence of trauma was found during autopsy. Foul play is not suspected.
