Update: 4-year-old who died in hot car identified

A 4-year-old who died Sunday after being found in a hot car has been identified.

Amir Sarcuar-Savar-Savour was found around 4:40 p.m. by an unidentified relative who was looking for him, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release Monday.

Amir was transported by EMS to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:04 p.m. An autopsy conducted Monday showed that Amir died from probable hyperthermia due to being enclosed in a hot vehicle.

The child was found in a Volkswagen Beetle at the Richland Terrace Apartments at 1212 Metze Road, according to Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Kevin Lawrence.

The car, which belonged to a neighbor, had doors that could not be locked. Investigators do not know how the child got into the car and are calling the death suspicious, he said.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating.
