Passenger in SUV dies in accident near Walhalla
A 28 year-old Seneca man died Sunday in a single-vehicle accident near Walhalla. Two other people were taken from the scene to the Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred on S.C. 183, also known as Pickens Highway, about 3 miles north of the city at 7:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling south toward Walhalla when the driver ran onto the right shoulder of the road, overcorrected, then lose control. The vehicle struck a guardrail before going over it, striking a tree and overturning onto the roof of the vehicle.
The deceased, Timothy Mark Hoover, was a restrained back-seat passenger; he died at the scene from blunt-force head trauma. An autopsy is planned, the release said.
The S.C. Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
