After West Columbia woman’s body is found, a teen is charged with murder, SC cops say
A teenager was arrested after a West Columbia woman’s body was found in a Lexington County home Sunday, officials said.
At about 1 p.m., the body of 30-year-old Heather Renee Jordan was discovered at a home in the 1600 block of Northland Drive in Cayce, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. That’s in the area near U.S. 321/Charleston Highway and about a mile from Steel Hands Brewing.
Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene, Fisher said.
Jordan’s cause of death will be determined following an autopsy, which is scheduled for Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to Fisher. But the coroner called Jordan a homicide victim.
Kendall Lamont Moody, 18, was charged with murder and possessing a weapon during a violent crime, jail records show.
No bond has been set on either charge and Moody remains behind bars at the Lexington County Detention Center, according to jail records.
There was no word on a motive for the crime, or if Moody and Jordan previously knew each other.
Before announcing Moody’s arrest, the Cayce Department of Public Safety said Jordan’s death was not considered an ongoing threat to the public.
“Our officers were very thorough in processing evidence during the investigation. We were able to quickly arrest Kendall Lamont Moody thanks to their diligence and commitment to public safety,” Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove said Monday in a news release. “A lot of outstanding investigative work occurred yesterday to lead to these charges. The Cayce Department of Public Safety will continue to work to ensure that justice is served for the death of Heather Renee Jordan.”
