Suspected gunman found dead after 2 women killed in Lexington County, deputies say
The man suspected of killing two women in a Lexington County neighborhood Monday has been found dead, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Monday afternoon.
The suspected gunman was found dead of an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound in his car parked in Richland County, the sheriff’s office announced in a tweet.
The man, who has not been identified, was suspected of killing two women who were killed in a Monday morning shooting.
Gaston residents Jaimey McKenzie Green, 20, and Jazzmyne Ajytia Onisha Green, 25, died at the scene from gunshot wounds, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
Gunfire was reported in the 200 block of Woodcote Drive, the sheriff’s department said on Twitter. That’s in Gaston, near U.S. 321, and not far from the intersection with Old Wire Road.
At about 9:15 a.m. a neighbor made a shots fired call to 911, according to the tweet. The neighbor then found the gunshot victims just outside the home, sheriff’s department spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick said at a news conference.
Further information on the women, or their relationship to each other or the suspected killer, was not available.
Information if one, or both, of the women lived at the home was not available.
Responding deputies interviewed neighbors and examined potential evidence in the subdivision, the sheriff’s department said.
No arrests have been reported and there was no word on a motive for shooting.
“We don’t have anything on a motive,” Myrick said.
No other injuries were reported, according to Myrick.
A segment of Woodcote Drive was blocked off to incoming traffic, Myrick told The State. There was no word on how long investigators would be at the scene and in the neighborhood.
The sheriff’s department said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident
“We have no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the community,” according to the tweet.
