Body found outside home in Lexington County subdivision, police say
An investigation is underway in Lexington County after a body was found outside of a home early Tuesday morning, according to the Cayce Police Department.
At about 7:15 a.m., police were called about the body, spokeswoman Ashley Hunter said in a news release.
The body was discovered outside of a home in the Hunters Mill subdivision, at 285 Hunters Mill Drive, according to Hunter. That’s near Emanuel Church Road in between Old Barnwell and Platts Springs roads.
The body found in the front yard was the man who lived at the home by himself, Cayce Police Chief Chris Cowan said at a news conference.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is expected to publicly identify the man after notifying the next of kin.
Information on a cause of death was not available. Cowan said investigators do not believe the death was a homicide.
“At this time, ... there is no indication or cause to believe that there is any threat or danger to the community,” Hunter said.
There was no word if death by suicide or a medical emergency was suspected.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting police and the coroner’s office with the investigation. That includes interviewing the man’s family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, as well as processing the scene, according to Cowan.
“We don’t know why or how it occurred ... but we’re looking at all angles,” Cowan said. “We’re trying to determine exactly what happened.”
In a previous incident in the 200 block of Hunters Mill Drive, a Lexington surgeon was charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a man at the doctor’s home.
Dr. Adam Lazzarini was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the October 2017 shooting death of 30-year-old William Player Holland. Police have said Lazzarini was under the influence of alcohol when he pointed a handgun at Holland’s chest and fired it, killing him.
On May 1, 2018, Lazzarini called paramedics to his home. His wife of 10 years, Vanessa Biery Lazzarini, 43, was unresponsive, and paramedics were unable to revive her.
Lazzarini has never been charged in his wife’s death.
In May, Lazzarini’s trial was delayed indefinitely.
