Man charged with murder after overnight shooting at SC pool hall, police say
An arrest was announced hours after one person was killed and several others were injured overnight in a shooting at a pool hall, the Charleston Police Department said Monday.
Quantas Mortee Green, 34, of Johns Island was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, police said in a news release.
At about 2 a.m., officers responded to multiple shots fired calls at Players Place Billiards, according to the release. That’s in a building that used to be a pharmacy at 1934 Ashley River Road in the West Ashley area.
Witnesses said multiple people were involved in the incident, and five were injured, according to the release.
One person taken to an area hospital later died, police said.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is expected to publicly identify the victim after notifying the next of kin.
The other four people who were hurt also were taken to an area hospital with what police said were “non-life threatening injuries.” Further information on their conditions was not available.
Only three people, including the shooting victim, were injured by gunfire, police said.
One of the other people was hurt while taking cover when the shooting started and suffered a minor injury, according to the release.
Police said Green was the other person who was hurt while being apprehended by a police K9 as he was trying to run away from the sports bar.
Green is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center and is scheduled to have a bond hearing Tuesday, according to the release.
There was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
Police said the shooting is not considered an ongoing threat to the community, but it remains under investigation.
