Man shot multiple times near Williams-Brice Stadium, Richland County deputies say

An investigation is underway after a tow truck driver was shot overnight in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a shots fired call, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

When they arrived to South Beltline Boulevard, deputies found a man who was shot multiple times, according to the release.

The man was shot while he was in the 1400 block of Shop Road, near Williams-Brice Stadium, the sheriff’s department said. The man then drove more than 2 miles to South Beltline Boulevard, according to the release.

The man was taken to an area hospital, according to the release. Further information on his condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s department said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is not an ongoing threat to the community. How deputies reached that conclusion was not made available.

There is no word on a shooter, or shooters, or a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department.
