11-day manhunt leads to arrest in road rage shooting of Spartanburg football QB
A man suspected in a road rage shooting of a Spartanburg High School quarterback turned himself in to law enforcement Tuesday morning.
Raheim Jeter, a junior at Spartanburg High, was shot in the leg as he waited to make a turn in Boiling Springs around 10 p.m. Feb. 18. A tweet from the Spartanburg High football account said he had surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses helped lead them to a suspect.
Armad Rashad Ali Irby, 41, of Boiling Springs has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center Tuesday morning.
Deputies could find no evidence that Irby and Jeter knew one another.
The Spartanburg football account tweeted, “Expecting a 100% recovery & phenomenal future. The story God is writing in his life and his teammates is remarkable.”
Grey Ramsey, an assistant football coach at Spartanburg High, tweeted on the official Spartanburg Vikings Twitter page, “The prayers for this young man over the past day or so have been much appreciated. This will be another example of how special this guy’s character, work ethic, and leadership is. Strongest, most inspiring kid I know.“
Jeter is a hard commit to West Virginia Mountaineers, according to 247Sports website.
He was offered a spot by the USC Gamecocks during Will Muschamp’s coaching tenure.
