Pedestrian killed while crossing Columbia interstate, troopers report

A pedestrian attempting to cross Interstate 20 in Columbia was hit by a car and killed Saturday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Trooper Tyler Tidwell reported that at about 5 a.m. the driver of a 2013 Honda in the eastbound lane hit the pedestrian near mile marker 71. That’s near the exit for Wilson Boulevard in northern Richland County.

It’s unclear if the driver will be charged for hitting the pedestrian.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office typically publicly identifies victims after next-of-kin is notified.
